Are there tryouts?
Not at all! No prior experience is necessary. Is there an instructor? Yes! We have student instructors who have experience in Taekwondo and other forms of martial arts. The club also holds instructor training for those interested in becoming instructors! Is this a student run organization? Yes! We are a student run organization and we are led by 5 students who were voted in by our club. Our exec board works closely with the student instructors. Are practices mandatory? Nope! Anyone is welcome to come to as many or as few practice as they'd like! Coming to practices is encouraged, but not required by any means. If you are too busy to make many practices, we understand and you are still welcome to attend our other events! Are there many social events? Yes! We are a very socially active club. We will often have dinners, social events, and hang out together on the quad or at each others apartments. We also do community service activities to help out our community. Is there a belt system? No, practices are very relaxed and material taught during practice is for each member's own benefit. Are there any competitions? No, not for the upcoming year 2022-2023. But potentially in years to come! Do we have uniforms? No we do not have uniforms. But each member who pays dues will receive a club T-shirt. Workout attire is encouraged, but a gi is not required at all. We offer gi options for those interested! For club picture day we do ask members to wear the club T-shirt along with black shorts, black leggings, or black gi pants. How long do practices typically last? Normally on Tuesdays and Thursdays, practice lasts about 45 minutes to an hour. On Saturdays, practice lasts about 2 hours but members can drop in at any time. Typically the beginning of spar days consists of pad-work and warming up, and then members go through 5 rounds of sparring. Is the club free to join? You are free to join us for the first couple of weeks of practice, but afterwards you must pay dues to continue practicing or to participate in socials. Dues for members each semester are $30. Then dues for instructors each semester are $15. |
